No time to get to the gym? No cash to shell out for high-priced trainers? No cool workout clothes to show off? No problem! Let me introduce you to my favorite workout app: N+TC Nike Training Club App.
Simple put, this app is ah-mazing. In Nike’s own words:
“Nike+ Training Club (N+TC) is a training app with more than 100 full-body workouts for you to complete any time, anywhere, either individually or as part of a tailored program. The workouts are developed by a Nike professional trainer, inspired by world-class athletes and based on years of Nike research. Each workout is made up of carefully considered drills and aimed at helping you get lean, toned or strong. They can be completed in 15, 30 or 45 minutes, and each will tell you the approximate calories you’ll burn and the approximate NikeFuel you’ll earn.”
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Not much. It’s designed for dummies. No offense to anyone, of course. I put myself in this category. It’s laid it in a super user-friendly way.
First: Select your desired goal; Get Lean, Get Toned or Get Strong
Second: Select your ability level; Beginner, Intermediate or Advanced
Third: Select one of the many workouts listed; all differ in length and content. But all get your heart pumping!
Yeah, it’s that easy. And if you’re unsure how to do the exercises properly, there is a camera icon on the top right of your screen. Click that and you’ll see a short video demonstrating the correct moves. Also, you can set the music from your own music library.
DO YOU NEED SPECIAL EQUIPMENT? Some drills are designed to be done with specific equipment, most commonly dumbbells and a step-up box. You should use these items to maximize your results, but you can certainly complete the exercises without them.
TRACKING YOUR RESULTS: You will create a Nike+ profile that will log all your workout minutes and estimated calories burned.
BONUS: Nike has added a “Get Focused” section to the app’s newest version. I. LOVE. THIS. These are mostly 15 minute workouts that target a specific area and are designed by fitness experts and elite athletes. “Perfect Alignment” from Gabby Douglas. “New Year’s Crush” from Maria Sharapova. There’s something for everything: legs, butt, core, everything! I add these on to my workouts or just do them solo if I’m running out of time.
Ideally, I prefer to go sweat it out in the gym or a class, but this app puts you through what a lot of trainers would do. I use it often when traveling, when my work schedule becomes overwhelming (I have done these workouts in my office) or when I just want to be lazy and stay home. I’m sorry to tell y’all, but in a world of a gazillion fitness apps there are not that many excuses anymore. Download it. Try it. You’ll love it.
