When it comes to kids and Halloween, you just know at some point your kids are going to want to apply face paint or makeup. No amount of talking will convince them otherwise. However, most commerically sold makeup products contain lead, which is a known carcinogen and powerful neurotoxin that affects nearly every organ in the body. It can impair brain development, as well as cause skin rashes. Kids ages 1-6 are especially vulnerable to lead exposure. Lead is banned from makeup in Canada and Europe but is allowed at any level in the U.S. Yikes!
So in light of those scary facts, here are some great nontoxic options, including makeup, nail polishes, hair chalk and DIY recipes for blood, goop and more.
Oh, and remember to always spot check makeup on kids before applying.
