I know – the first thing you think is: “Oh no, no, no – Face Oils? That sounds like a disaster on my already oily/acne/problem/dry/‘put your face issue here’/ skin. And believe me, this was my first reaction as well. And, well…. I have changed my mind. Yes, I have changed my mind. I know! It’s true! After taking on the task of slowly switching out my old and unhealthy (read toxic) skin care products, I have been looking for new alternatives. And on this journey of enlightenment I met and fell in love with Beautycounter.
For those not familiar with Beautycounter they are a young company specializing in naturally derived, plant based, clean and luxurious skin care products. They have banned over 1,500 nasty ingredients, known to be harmful human health. As a friend once put it – they are a mix of whole foods and chanel. Yes, it is possible to make chic and effective and not to mention safe skincare (and makeup!). They have proved it. Just try it and see for yourself. I dare you. Warning! I love the products so much I am now repping them, so just so you know, this might happen to you too…
While testing and trying and smearing and smelling all these little goodies for my skin I finally dared to try: the face oils. Like I said up there, I was skeptical. But like I also said, I have changed my mind.
And here are some reasons why:
- ABSORPTION & MOISTURE – High ingredient plant based facial oils placed on skin will absorb quick and easy to penetrate and provide a deeper level of moisture. It’s way more beneficial than something that just “sits” on your skin. It give you glow from the inside out. Pure plant based oils are great for their natural anti-microbial and uber-hydrating properties.
- VITAMINS & SKIN FOOD – Pure plant-based oils have anti-oxidants, vitamins & essential fatty acids (EFAs) for your skin. The body can’t produce EFA’s on its own, so it’s good to get them from the outside in order to repair the skin’s natural lipid barrier that is often stripped. These skin superheros repair current damage and help prevent future damage as well. We are all actively trying to ingest vitamins and antioxidants (acai berry anyone?), so why not add them to our skin as well?
- NATURE KNOWS BEST – Silicon, chemicals, plastic – makes you look good temporarily. But let’s face it, you are putting chemicals on your skin (and it is getting absorbed). Nasty fillers like synthetic petroleum and animal-based lanolin oils are in many of the beauty industry’s most popular products and these baddies give Mother Nature’s oils their bad rap.
HOW TO USE FACE OILS
It’s simple really. I have just added it to my skin care routine. A routine that is not fancy to begin with: day (w/SPF) or night (w/moisturizing stuff) moisturizer and maybe an eye cream and maybe a serum sometimes. I just use a few drops of Beautycounter Lustro Oils day & night, after moisturizing. I drop it onto my fingers and pad it on my cheeks, forehead and around my chin area. My skin is brighter, plumper, has less redness and my pores seem smaller as well! I feel bright and shimmery and it secretly makes me feel like a 20 year old again.
Let’s talk about the different plant-based oils used in the Lustro Oils and why they rock so hard:
Argan Nut Oil: Loaded with antioxidants, carotenes, and essential fatty acids to nourish and hydrate, this also has plant sterols to help restore balance to oily skin.
Grapeseed Oil: This is a godsend for nourishing the skin, and reducing puffiness thanks to it’s dense linoleic acid and polychenols. It also has potent antioxidants that stimulate circulation.
Marula Oil: Indigenous to Africa, this richly moisturizing oil is not only chock full of antioxidants and EFAs, but is super long-lasting.
Meadowfoam Seed Oil: Native to California and Oregon, this oil boasts antioxidant Vitamin E.
Rosehip Oil: May decrease the appearance of burns, scars, and stretch marks, all while soothing dry, irritated skin.
Rose Otto Oil: Reduces redness and broken capillaries, and is especially effective for dry, sensitive, or mature skin. Bonus: It’s a naturally fragrant oil.
Sea Buckthorn Oil: Comes from the Himalayas and contains antioxidant vitamins A, C, E and skin-fortifying minerals like zinc, selenium and copper; it also has high concentrations of omega 3s, 6s, and 7s that decrease inflammation and help stimulate collagen and elastin production.
The 3 oils have different smells and properties as well.
Lustro Oil 1 has Calendula Oil or Marigold, a skin-soothing ingredient that moisturizes and refreshes sensitive skin.
Lustro Oil 2 has Jasmine Oil which makes the skin look more supple and toned.
Lustro Oil 3 has Ylang Ylang and Wild Chamomile. Ylang Ylang Oil balances oil production, and is effective for dry, oily, or combination skin while Wild Chamomile soothes skin and its texture.
These 3 Lustro Face Oils all rank 2 on EWG’s website / Healthy Living App. Pink Kale has some great options as well
